For the first time since its creation in 2012, the Kakao Beach Club sends a Saint-Martin youth team to the tenth edition of the French Beach Tennis Championships which will take place in Châtelaillon-Plage (New Aquitaine) from August 23 to 25, 2018 .

"Whatever the outcome. Succeeding in bringing two, up to the French championship, is already a consecration for us who started from nothing and have put in so much effort for the children. "Confides Alexandre Juilliard, the president of the club. “We don't really have expectations. As it is the first time, we do not know at all the level of their adversaries ”he continues.

Tom Lamort, 15, qualified in Guadeloupe last May and has already left for mainland France for the holidays. His partner could not follow him in the championship, it is Baptiste Chiffre, 15 years old too, and raises in second to Schoelcher, who replaces him at short notice. They will represent not only Saint-Martin but also Guadeloupe in the only children's category of the championship.

“We've known him for several years, it's not a new sport for him,” explains his coach, Virginie Carien, French doubles champion in 2012. Baptiste says he does not follow any particular diet. However, since the beginning of the summer, Virginia has concocted an intensive training. On Orient Bay beach, he trains every morning with the young people who participate in the courses offered by the club during the school holidays. He will not leave until mid-August in France. Until then, for his physical preparation, he runs daily and also does cardio, interval training, and muscle building exercises. "From time to time we also make him play with adults so that he develops a more aggressive game than when he faces his friends" explains his coach.

The club affiliated to the French tennis federation, has around forty children against a hundred before Irma, as well as around forty adults, some of whom have already participated in the previous French championships. Two adults are also qualified for this year's but they do not yet know if they will be able to go to metropolitan France to participate.
