LOCAL ART: Exhibition of illustrations “The St. Martiner”

Saint-Martin is also told in drawings and it is Raymond Bowen who produced this series of colorful works which are exhibited at the Ô 7 restaurant on the Marina Royale in Marigot.

The inspiration of an artist has no limits, it was stuck in his car stopped because of a herd of goats in the middle of the road that the English artist Robert Bowen had this wonderful idea to reproduce in drawing the vision of his daily life as a newcomer to the island. Installed since 2015 in Saint Martin, the artist never ceases to have fun with certain situations that seem usual to natives or long-time inhabitants, or even typical expressions from here that no longer surprise either one or the other. . The herd of animals crossing the road is a perfect example of this, but it is nonetheless extraordinary for this artist who, since 2016, has been compiling humorous and colorful illustrations representing his unique experiences or his many questions concerning local terms given to certain things: the coconut tree dog, to name just one. The anti-mosquito racket and the swimming pool shared with the iguanas remain two themes dear to the designer. By questioning himself in this way with his English artist's eye, Raymond Bowen draws his own theory and this gives results as funny as they are graphically pretty. This collection of drawings, baptized "The St. Martiner", was printed in the form of A3 format posters which are now exhibited to the general public on the walls of the restaurant Ô 7. Raymond Bowen's artistic proposal is not uniquely original, through these humorous and visual anecdotes directly inspired by his own experience, “The St. Martiner” promotes a unique life experience in Saint Martin. While only nine posters are on display at the Ô 7 restaurant, other works are available at Voila Sxm at 101 boulevard de Grand Case in Grand Case and at MerSea – Family store at 8 rue Kennedy in Marigot. _VX
