Aline Hanson died at the age of 67 last Thursday at her home after a long illness. The announcement of his death deeply saddened the entire population of Saint-Martin.

As soon as the sad news was announced, many personalities spoke through the press and on social networks to honor the memory of a great figure in the local landscape who marked an entire generation.

The Minister of Overseas, Annick Girardin, the Prefect of the Northern Islands, Anne Laubies, the President of the Community, Daniel Gibbs, the President of the Regional Council of Guadeloupe, Ary Chalus, the academy inspector-deputy academic director national education services, Michel Sanz, the president of the CCISM, Jean Arnell and many associations including "Jeunesse Soualiga" reacted by press and all welcomed "the commitment of Madame Aline Hanson in favor of youth Saint-Martin ”.

Senator Guillaume Arnell spoke on his Facebook and Twitter accounts. He says he is "proud to have served [his] island by his side, to have known how to gain his trust and testify against all odds [his] loyalty to him".

Michel Magras, senator from Saint-Barthélemy "bows to the memory of a courageous, combative and committed woman for the Collectivity and the children of Saint-Martin during her professional career".

Louis Mussington and his movement, the MJP "admire his courage and his determination to have fought to the end". "She has always been worthy, even in illness," says Aline Choisy, her friend, on her Facebook account.

Aline Hanson had indeed been sick for several years.

She had been forced from time to time to leave the presidency of the Collectivity to Guillaume Arnell, its first vice-president, but had always wanted to take over the reins. She also wanted to represent herself. His audacity to defend his record had been underlined by all the candidates.

His courage, determination, strength of character and willingness to fight are the main qualities that Saint-Martinois will undoubtedly retain from Aline Hanson.

Since Thursday evening, many of them have expressed their sadness on social networks and paid tribute to "this great lady of Saint Martin".

Aline Hanson comes from a family of eight children. His mother was a baker and his father a carpenter. She chaired the Collective from April 2013 to March 2017. She had been involved in politics since the 1990s but it was mainly for "her" young people that she fought battles throughout her life. There was not an official speech without her citing this "Saint-Martin youth" of which she was so proud and for which she wanted so much. "You have to believe in your dreams and give yourself the means to achieve your goals," she said. Without forgetting to remind parents of their role in the education of their children. "Surround them, guide them, don't let them go," she kept repeating. She was "convinced that love and kindness [were] the keys to a successful education".

When she was elected in March 2012 with the RRR team, it was obviously from the Human Development and School Affairs Division that she wanted to take care of; responsibilities which she did not let go of when she was elected President of the COM in April 2013.

Education was his vocation. She obtained her literary bac in Guadeloupe then joined the teacher training college and the teaching staff in 1974. She taught at Le Moule in Guadeloupe before returning to her island. In 1992, she became the principal of the elementary school at Sandy-Ground, a school which now bears her name. Aline Hanson has dedicated forty-four years of her life to the world of education. She also worked a lot for the associative world. She was president of the Sandy-Ground cultural center.

This involvement earned him to be decorated in July 2014 with the badge of the national order of merit; an order established in 1963 by General de Gaulle which rewards the distinguished merits rendered to the nation. “I have always had a kind ear. I learned that accepting criticism allows progress. Listening and courage make things happen, ”she said at the ceremony. “I have the merit of loving my life with passion. I owe my journey to my family, ”she said.

A register of condolences is open to the public at the hotel in the community, this Monday, July 3, at 8 am, in tribute to Mrs. Aline Hanson, former President of the Community.

President Daniel Gibbs has decreed that the flags will be flown at half-mast from Friday June 30 to Wednesday July 5 inclusive.
