Thursday  September 19, the World Bank approved the US $ 72 million Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA) terminal reconstruction project. This project is to restore the entire service of PJIA, which was severely damaged during cyclones Irma and Maria.

The program will finance the reconstruction and purchase of equipment and will tend to bring the airport back to its pre-Irma operating capacity, with 2,5 million passengers annually. The project also aims to strengthen the airport's capacity to cope with extreme weather phenomena. The Government of the Netherlands will finance the project through the Reconstruction, Recovery and Resilience Trust Fund in Sint Maarten, which is managed by the World Bank. The European Bank will co-finance for US $ 50 million, as well as the airport operating company Juliana which will contribute US $ 7 million.

The Trust Fund for Reconstruction, Recovery and Resilience in Sint Maarten, worth € 470 million, is managed by the World Bank and financed by the Government of the Netherlands. The Trust Fund provides financial resources and technical support to the Sint Maarten National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) and its goals of restoring economic, community and governance infrastructure, as well as service delivery . The Sint Maarten government is implementing four projects worth US $ 134 million. _RM
