In the presence of the prefect Anne Laubies and the president of the Collectivité Aline Hanson, the presentation of the results of the call for projects “Sargassum algae: innovative collection and valuation” was carried out on Friday morning by Ademe, at the CCISM, at Concordia.

This call for projects was launched in 2015 by Ademe (Environment and Energy Management Agency) in conjunction with the Guadeloupe region and the Guadeloupe departmental council. During this conference, the agency unveiled the significant projects selected in Martinique and Guadeloupe. “We are experimenting (…) We are all confronted with Sargassum and solutions must be found”, declared the Prefect to the resulting from this conference. “The projects presented are thoughtful and innovative. Our territories need these projects, because the public authorities will not be able to do everything ”, added the president, thanking the agency for coming to Saint-Martin. “The call was launched at the beginning of 2015 in order to collect projects on innovative collection and on the valuation of this algae. The idea was to complete an emergency system that the communities have set up with state aid, and to support the green brigade system with medium and long term perspectives ”, explained Jérôme Roch. , regional director of Ademe in Guadeloupe. Regarding the collection part, the agency has received around thirty projects so that the algae can be captured at sea. On the recovery part, several ways are already being tested, according to the director: “We have selected around fifteen studies in Martinique and in Guadeloupe offering agronomic recovery (fertilizers, fertilizers), animal nutrition supplements, energy recovery attempts or even green chemistry sectors (cosmetics, food additives). ” Ademe has not neglected any avenue to promote this algae. “We want to test all possible routes, then we will highlight the most interesting routes”, Jérôme Roch concluded.
