On March 15, 2018 around 15:10 p.m., two scooters collided head-on in Morne Valois. The pilot of one of these two scooters died of his injuries at the scene of the accident, the death being recorded by the SAMU. The second pilot, seriously injured, is currently hospitalized in Martinique. A flagrancy investigation for manslaughter while driving a vehicle was opened by the gendarmerie brigade of Marigot, under the direction of the duty magistrate of the prosecution.

This investigation aims to determine the exact circumstances of the accident, the possible consumption of alcohol or narcotic products by the people involved and the criminal responsibilities. The first investigations, in particular the testimonies collected, highlight the dangerous driving behavior of the deceased pilot, who drove at high speed while making dangerous overtaking using the opposite lane. In no case do they allow third-party vehicles to be involved in this accident.

Numerous rumors mentioned the involvement in the accident of a gendarmerie vehicle. False information relayed on certain social networks. However, they appear completely unfounded, so the public prosecutor's office detached from Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy wishes to formally deny them.
