60 kg of drugs intercepted by the French Navy

On May 23, the surveillance frigate Ventôse of the French National Navy in the Antilles, then deployed at sea as part of its operational preparation, was diverted from its training to intercept a go fast suspected of drug trafficking at fifty miles nautical west of Dominica.

Chased by the surveillance frigate Ventôse and its Panther helicopter, the go fast threw two bundles of drugs into the sea before fleeing. The immediate intervention of the French Navy helicopter enabled the recovery of these two bundles of drugs, the content of which is estimated at nearly fifty kilograms of cocaine and ten kilograms of marijuana. The drugs were handed over to the OCRTIS Caribbean branch for destruction. This operation illustrates the responsiveness of French Navy units and their ability to reconfigure quickly. This operation brings the balance sheet for this year 2016 to nearly 3,4 tonnes of drugs intercepted at sea by the joint action of all French services in the Antilles maritime area. _AF
