56th Carnival of Saint Martin: the detailed program

0

The 56th edition is fast approaching. Since last year, following the passage of Irma, Saint-Martin no longer has a carnival village proper. The main demonstrations then take place on the seafront of Marigot. "It is not the village that makes the carnival, it is the population and its participation" puts Luciana Raspail, president of the committee of carnival festivities into perspective.

The festivities will span nine days and begin on Sunday 17 February next with the election of the Miss mini queen Le Saturday 23 February, Saint-Martin will elect its Miss carnival. These two election evenings are chargeable and will take place on the grounds of the old village (opposite the Galisbay car park).

The next day, Sunday 24 February, grand children's parade will leave the Vanterpool stadium at 14 p.m. The procession will then follow the following route: rue de Hollande rue de la Liberté, rue Kennedy and will join directly rue de Hollande by the small one-way street to finish at the stadium. Eight groups are already registered and will be joined by the Mini Misses.

We will have to wait until the end of the following week and Bacchanal Launch, be the Friday March 1, so that the carnival festivities are officially launched. The carnival village will be set up for six days on the seafront of Marigot. As last year, when the committee had set it up for the first time, it is a mini parade in a vacuum (all people in disguise can follow the procession) which will symbolically mark the opening of the carnival.

Rather than tanks, groups on foot (Locomotiv 'and New Generation Status Band) will accompany the participants.

The departure is scheduled for 19:30 p.m. and should be given at the Mc Donald parking lot. Next will be official statements on the waterfront and free concerts until midnight of local and international artists.

The next day, Saturday 2 March, will take place the famous Open Morning whose departure is scheduled for 5 am at the Agrément roundabout. The festivities will resume in the evening, for the Bacchanal Runway, with the second edition of the competition individual costumes.

Registration for this competition is open. The winner of the first prize in this competition, which requires a lot of energy and financial investment, will win 5 euros. The competition will be followed by musical entertainment on the seafront at Marigot.

Sunday 3 March, will come the turn of the grand parade of adults which will start at the Agrément roundabout and continue through the streets of Marigot. The flagship place is rue de la République, where the seven different troops will perform their choreographies. The procession will then arrive on the seafront where each troop will redo their choreography. Musical entertainment will then be provided by local groups.

Monday 4 March, from 20 p.m., for the We Showdown II, the stage erected on the seafront will host another concert format. The fifteen local artists on the program will be accompanied by an orchestra and will be linked.

Tuesday March 5, Mardi Gras, the adult troops will march again in the streets of Marigot, but this time from 14 p.m. They will arrive on the seafront at 18 p.m. and will be followed by musical entertainment.

Finally, the highlight of the show will have the wednesday 6 march, Ash Wednesday, with a tumble in which the dress code is black and white (Closing Jump Up Black n White) from 20 p.m. from the Agrément roundabout, which is scheduled to arrive at 23:30 p.m. on the seafront. After the thank-you speeches, it will be time to burn Vaval on the sea.
