Zika: "A global public health emergency"

Earlier this week, the World Health Organization (WHO) described the Zika virus as "a public health emergency of global concern" after a meeting with experts in Geneva. “We must act,” WHO director Margaret Chan told a press conference after the meeting. WHO has not yet made recommendations regarding stays in affected areas. In Saint-Martin, since the start of surveillance, only one person has been confirmed to be biologically infected with the virus. "The symptoms are most often flu-like (fever, headache, muscle aches) with skin rashes and appear within 3 to 12 days following the bite by the infected mosquito," recalls the prefecture.
