Vehicle theft: Man sentenced to 4 years in prison

A 26-year-old resident of Sint Maarten was sentenced to 4 years in prison for vehicle theft. In police custody he admitted his participation in 15 vehicle thefts, at least 10 of which were stolen in part French and to the detriment of a rental company.

The man was arrested in flagrante delicto in Saint Martin on July 25 by the gendarmerie cell dedicated to the serial phenomenon of vehicle theft at the initiative of the victim, who saw him driving in his stolen vehicle two nights earlier. The detainee admitted his participation in 15 vehicle thefts and an attempt since June 2019 , the latest facts dating from July 23, 2020, and explained that he was part of a team based in Sint Maarten, recruiting him for 1 US dollars per vehicle, which he was responsible for conveying, while others forced them and Start them up, then recondition them to resell them.
