As part of its home support assistance policy, the Solidarity and Families Cluster of the community of Saint-Martin has set up training for family carers of people with Alzheimer's disease (or related diseases) , in partnership with the France Alzheimer Guadeloupe association.

The first day of training took place on Saturday January 21, 2017 and the two other training sessions are scheduled, Saturday January 28 and Saturday February 04, 2017, from 9 a.m. to 13:30 p.m. in the premises of the Solidarity & Families center at Concordia.

The vice-president in charge of the Solidarity & Families Pole, Mrs. Ramona CONNOR, will welcome the trainees, Saturday January 28, for the 2nd training session. She will be accompanied by Mr. Paul DOLLIN, director of the People's Autonomy service, who oversees this project. France Alzheimer Guadeloupe will lead the training. Among the speakers, Mrs. Céline GOMBAULT, volunteer family caregiver, and Mrs. Valéry BOULOGNE, Psychologist-Gerontologist, will complete the information given to family caregivers.

This training initiated by the community aims to help people living with the sick, in order to provide them with keys to the illness, the patient's behavior, the attitude to adopt and the communication to be implemented.

The 14 hours of training are divided into 5 separate modules:

1- Know Alzheimer's disease (the different disorders of the disease).

2- Aid (Social, financial and legal aid).

3- Support (everyday actions, time for sharing and relaxation);

4- Communicate (maintain the exchange, respond to manifestations of mood and disturbing behavior).

5- Being the family caregiver (modification of roles within the family).

Please Note:

The term primary caregiver commonly called natural caregiver refers to a person or a group of people who live and act in the immediate environment of a sick, suffering, or losing autonomy.
