A homeless man arrested after the fire of three gendarmerie vehicles

Three vehicles of the National Gendarmerie were engulfed in flames yesterday in the center of Marigot. An individual was arrested.

Three gendarmerie vehicles burned down early yesterday morning in a parking lot located rue du President Kennedy in Marigot. According to the first elements of the investigation, opened by the gendarmerie of Saint-Martin, the fire is of criminal origin. The author quickly identified was arrested and placed in police custody by the gendarmerie. He is a homeless man aged 43 and unfavorably known to the gendarmerie services for having burned down an apartment in 2015. He would have a psychiatric history, reports the gendarmerie. The firefighters, who arrived quickly at the scene of the fire, managed to control the flames before they spread to adjacent buildings. A hotel and a building had to be evacuated, reports the gendarmerie because of the strong radiation of the fire.
