The “Nature Valley Colombier” Association organized, yesterday afternoon, in the garden of its socio-cultural center in Colombier, the first edition of “It's a Guavaberry Festival”.

On the program, tastings of guavaberry-based preparations (jam, pies, punches) but also other local specialties such as coconut pie, pudding, conke cake and seasonal fruit juice.

“The objective is to enhance the plant. Because everyone likes guavaberry but nobody takes care of the trees ”explains Vernicia Brooks, the president of the association. Fifty people, chosen because they have a garden and know how to take care of fruit trees, have been offered a guavaberry plant. "We want to make sure that future generations can find trees," she adds.

Safeguarding the cultural heritage of Colombier in particular, and Saint-Martin in general, but above all ensuring that it survives the passage of time and the island's multiculturalism, constitutes the workhorse of the association created in 2004 .
