Works: Good news, the EEASM announces the end of the water towers!

"The enhanced performance of the Drinking Water Production Plant now makes it possible to no longer resort to water towers", indicates  the Water and Sanitation Establishment of Saint-Martin in a press release.

After a few days of diagnosis, the Collectivité of Saint-Martin and its Water and Sanitation Establishment (EEASM) observed that the work carried out on the production plant in recent months, to the tune of 70% of what was planned, now allow to avoid the use of water towers.

Since the launch of the rehabilitation of the Saint-Martin drinking water production plant (UPEP) last March, 70% of the scheduled work has been completed. The UPEP now has a daily production capacity of nearly 8500 m3, against 6700m3 / day before the works, i.e. an increased production capacity of 1800 m3 per day.

This increased production capacity makes it possible to rebalance the stocks and distribution of drinking water. As a result, it grants flexibility to the delegatee, both in the management of water production and storage levels as well as in the maintenance and repair of pipelines.

Consequently, it was decided to postpone the last phase of work still to be carried out to a later date, outside the hurricane season and the tourist season.

Daniel Gibbs: "Favor the revival of the economy"

The President of the Collectivity of Saint-Martin praised the work carried out by the teams of the EEASM, the company commissioned for the work as well as that of the delegatee SAUR: "UPEP now benefits from an increased production capacity. which allows us to secure the production of drinking water. This is an important step forward for our territory, achieved thanks to a significant investment by our Water and Sanitation establishment (EEASM) and its teams. The remaining 30% of the work will be carried out later, the priority today being to promote the revival of our economy. In my opinion, it is a priority in this context to give priority to tourist activity and to prevent it from being impacted by new water towers while we feel a return in attendance as and when reductions are made. health constraints.

Nevertheless, everyone must be very attentive to the problems of overconsumption of drinking water. I ask you to continue to preserve this scarce resource through reasoned consumption. The current hurricane season requires the greatest vigilance with regard to available water stocks. Thank you to those who understand these issues and are committed to working alongside us for better water management ”.
