Transformation of the Marigot seafront: The start of the works will be given in 2021

1

Restore Marigot's vocation as a coastal city and above all alive by opening up the urban center to the sea and developing the seafront as it deserves. Here is the ambitious project launched by the Collective.

Seafront transformation studies are underway. The start of the works will be given in 2021, for delivery in 2023. The idea is to improve attendance at Marigot thanks to the redevelopment of the seafront and better connection with the city center. A total of five hectares, between the Fort Louis marina and the cemetery roundabout, are affected by the project. The priority is to enhance the place of the pedestrian by developing a quay and a promenade in this space, but also to invite the public to orient themselves from the city center to the coast by using the existing - but redeveloped - pedestrian paths and the future path. tree-lined road connecting the Hôtel de la Collectivité to the seaside. The presence of cars - which are invading public space today - is largely called into question, with the maintenance of a single road, the decline in parking spaces and the creation of parking spaces at the ends of the new space.

The 5 project sequences

The project is structured in 5 sequences: relocation of the ferry terminal on the other side of the Fort Louis marina, development of a park on the current car park opposite the station, construction of the lolos and markets around the site current, creation of a space bars and restaurants, and finally setting up a landscaped walk between the Almond trees and the cemetery roundabout.

• The move to the ferry terminal will open up the view of the sea from rue de la République. Several locations for tourist buses will unclog the current hot spot.

• The main square, transformed into an urban park and facing the sea, will offer a shaded and airy space with play areas.

• The different halls dedicated to the markets, strategically located near the pedestrian promenade, will be placed in line with the Hôtel de la Collectivité and will include two refreshing water mirrors.

• The restaurants, bars, billiards, clubs area, particularly dedicated to reviving the nightlife of Marigot, provides large spaces on two levels, wooden terraces on the sea side, with a view to entertainment both day and night.

• The landscaped promenade will be bordered by a large tree-lined and shaded strip, but also by a cycle path in continuity with the ferry terminal.
