Tourism: The season promises to be a good omen

0

The outlook for the  2019-2020 tourist season are pretty good. But, among the parameters to be taken into account, there is the fact that tourists are increasingly booking at the last moment. If previously reservations were made several months before departure, currently they are between one day and one month.

According to Véronique Legris, employee of the AHSM (Association des hôteliers de Saint-Martin) which manages all the projects piloted by the AHSM office, if today we take into account the number of firm reservations, the rate of occupancy is around 40%. A situation that should change quickly, since projections made by professionals in the sector predict an occupancy rate of between 60 and 80%, depending on the hotel. Conditions that make hoteliers positive and optimistic.

At the end of December 2019, there will be 602 rooms available in Saint-Martin, but Véronique Legris assures that three jumbo jets are missing on the island, “the Secret, which is sure to reopen, the Beach Hotel which will be ready for him in 2021, and Club Orient ”. Three hotels representing around 600 rooms. The PPRN (Plan for the prevention of natural risks) will not facilitate the reopening of Club Orient. The hotels will not necessarily be able to operate in the state, and if they reopen, "there will be no more insurance. There are so many clauses to respect… We are for the protection of our customers, our employees, which is logical, but there are certain adjustments to be made ”. The Beach Hotel should reopen for the 2021-2022 season, without an exact date being set, “but it must undergo a total renovation which requires a lot of time and very heavy engineering files. But it is in the pipes… ”. The wish of tourism professionals is for there to be more rooms, "because in a cascade, the repercussions are made in restaurants, shops, car rental companies ... Consequences at all levels". _RM
