SXM FESTIVAL, THE '' ECO '' FRIENDLY FESTIVAL

0

From its first edition in 2016, the organizers of the SXM Festival have developed a sustainable environmental program. And although the festival takes place in March, its organizers never stop.

The promotion of the SXM Festival and therefore of Saint-Martin / Sint-Maarten is an annual work which begins the day after the last edition. Several months before this new 2020 edition of the festival to be held from March 11 to 15, 2020, the environment is a priority for the organizers.

BYE BYE PLASTIC

The organizers of the SXM Festival banned plastic straws in 2017 and for the 2020 edition the use of plastic will be minimized. The packaging this year will be 100% biodegradable.

No more paper! THE SXM APP

There is no printed guide, but instead a mobile application that provides festival-goers with all the information they need in addition to music ...

No printed flyer will be used during the festival. This way there is no waste of paper.

This “zero waste” philosophy is trendy, but it is above all digital interaction with festival-goers that is sought after. Notifications are sent using this app to guide festival-goers to the best “parties” during the 5 days!

RFID SYSTEM

In 2019, the SXM Festival also completely freed itself from paper thanks to the RFID system.

Regarding payments, many participants do not want to carry a wallet with them while they are partying. The partner Eventbrite has therefore developed Ebpay, a platform that allows you to create your profile, add automatic account recharge options so that festival-goers can afford drinks and other services easily and without physical money. The festival is therefore very safe.

Eventbrite executives came to make sure the program worked perfectly. In order to ensure this and to guarantee the proper functioning of such a system on a remote island where access to the internet is sometimes uncertain, the organizers used their own generators and entered into a strategic partnership with the regional operator Dauphin Telecom, which facilitated the management of the broadband network. Thanks to a 4G + mobile pylon, the good performance of the system during the 5 days of the festival was ensured!

LEDs and solar energy to reduce energy consumption

The island has limited resources. The organizers have invested in LEDs and lights powered by solar energy to illuminate the sites, with the limitation of the impact of energy consumption in mind.

Community first: children, nature and the sea…

Beach towels, computers distributed to the ping-pong tables offered, all the social actions undertaken can be found on the website of the foundation www.twobunchpalm.org.

The organizers bought school equipment and rebuilt a basketball court, and have always wanted to leave a positive impact on the island and its inhabitants, without improvising but with planning as their watchword.

They entered into a partnership with SXM Doet last year. The artists and festival-goers participated together in this wonderful event!

Beach cleaning

This year, SXM Festival supports the organization Mystraw Company jointly with Dauphin Telecom for a big waste collection contest on the French part of St Martin, The Get Up Clean UP Contest! The organizers have provided tickets for some of the participants.

Tree plantation

In 2019, trees were planted with the collaboration of students from St-Martin.

Discover the sea

In 2020, the SXM Festival will be the partner of La Réserve Naturelle de Saint-Martin and Blue Finance. Videos were funded by the SXM Festival and Hommage Hotel & Résidences. Divers have explored the seabed and made 3D videos that will be available during the festival where participants will be able to make a donation at the same time.

IMPLEMENTATION OF A WASTE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

The organizers also collaborate with the Martinican non-profit organization "Les Connexions". For 15 years, "Les Connexions" have been leaders in waste management and recycling and have undertaken awareness campaigns on this subject. They collaborated on various events such as: Hellfest, Printemps de Bourges, Paris Marathon, Running Lyon, FIFA Women's World Cup - to name a few.

They support the organizers in the implementation of this festival in order to reduce, sort and recycle the waste it will produce.

Sorting equipment (transportable bins) is put in place to ensure proper waste management.

SXM FESTIVAL BUSES: TO REDUCE CARBON EMISSION

In order to reduce carbon emissions, festival-goers are encouraged to use their transport "pass", a bus service that runs from event to event. Road traffic and pollution are reduced, without forgetting improved road safety.

DISCOVERING LOCAL FLAVORS

A market will be held in the beginnings of the festival, where local producers / designers will exhibit their know-how and allow you to discover the flavors of Caribbean cuisine.

"NO TRACE" POLICY

The main event, which takes place on the secluded beach of “Happy Bay”, is an event that the organizers are proud to be able to call “no trace”.

There will be nothing negative left after the festival has passed, and everything has been thought of so that each site retains all its beauty, or even becomes even more beautiful ...

By promoting the island's natural and cultural heritage, SXM Festival encourages eco-tourism, the preservation of biodiversity, respect for cultural diversity and links to the environment, all while having fun!
