On the road to the Memorial Act: Educational and cultural trip for 20 CM1 and CM2 students!

0

The constituency of the Northern Islands and Senator Guillaume Arnell initiated the project “On the road to the ACT Memorial”. This educational and cultural project aims to allow 20 students of CM1 and CE2 of Saint-Martin to open up to the outside world with the visit of the Memorial ACT and the discovery of the cultural heritage of Guadeloupe.

The 20 pupils elected by their peers, represent the 10 elementary schools of Saint-Martin. Prior to the educational trip to Guadeloupe, the 10 classes concerned carried out reflective work on the subject of the slave trade, slavery and their abolition.

“On the road to the ACT Memorial” gives several students the opportunity to travel for the first time in Guadeloupe and to go and visit the Memorial Act, a place dedicated to the History of black peoples.

Through this educational trail on memory, students will visit the slave cemetery, the Néron house, the Edgar Clerc museum in Le Moule, the slave march in Petit-Canal, and the ACT Memorial. Each pupil will have to have a better knowledge of himself, of the other and of his differences in order to promote living together. The pupils of Saint-Martin must be aware that they have a common history with the other pupils of the Caribbean. It is by understanding their heritage that students will be able to structure their cultural identity.

We emphasize that the Guadeloupe Academy strongly encourages this cultural openness.

During this educational trip, the students will work on a travel diary which will be presented to their classmate, parents and the population of Saint-Martin.

The constituency of the Northern Islands thanks Senator Guillaume ARNELL, the educational success program, the symphorien center for integration, SEMSAMAR, the association USEP Iles du Nord and the community of Saint-Martin for their contribution in this project intended for the success of all our students. _AF
