ST MAARTEN: Prime Minister forced to resign

The Secretary of State for Home Affairs and Relations of the Kingdom of the Netherlands asked the governor of Sint Maarten to ask for the immediate resignation of Prime Minister William Marlin late last week.

According to the Netherlands, he did not follow the usual procedure after the parliament voted a no confidence motion and the governor accepted his resignation. He thus "violated the constitutional rule which leaves in place a minister who no longer has the confidence of Parliament", indicates the Secretary of State for Home Affairs.

Friday, William Marlin was therefore forced to resign. He did it live, for just over an hour, during a conference broadcast on the government's Facebook account. It was only after some forty minutes that he started talking about his departure. But to clarify: "I do not say goodbye. I do not go. I resign". He claims to have explained to the governor that he had already made this decision in early November and that he did not want to fight anyway.
