SINT MAARTEN: Exercises carried out by the army in the event of an emergency situation

0

The Ministry of Defense launched a comprehensive hurricane relief exercise in the Windward Islands last Monday. Military forces will train with various local security partners on the islands from September 11-29.

The goal of this regional exercise is the fastest and most effective military deployment in the event of a real hurricane threat. Squadrons arrived in Sint Maarten, Saba and Saint-Eustache. The military units will use their stay to become more familiar with the three islands and the relevant partners there, such as government organizations, non-governmental organizations and businesses that play an important role in emergency relief. Small activities will take place in turns, spread across the different islands.

The vast majority of military personnel are already present in the Caribbean region and include units from Marine Squadron Carib (Aruba), Naval Ship Zr. Ms. Pelikaan, FRISC ships and several other fleet and Marine support units.

In addition, a maritime detachment is permanently present in Sint Maarten. Thanks to training on the Windward Islands, in the event of a hurricane hitting the islands, it is possible to immediately provide emergency assistance and rescue people in need, the Defense Ministry said. “In such a situation, the military can also support civilian authorities and contribute to public order and security.” _AF
