On January 11 and 12, 2019, a year and a half after the climatic events that marked the Northern Islands in 2017, Jean-Christophe COMBE, Director General of the French Red Cross goes again to Saint-Martin to exchange with the teams and launch the new devices of the French Red Cross.

After the visit of Professor Jean-Jacques ELEDJAM, National President of the French Red Cross, in November 2017, Jean-Christophe COMBE visited last four territories in the French Antilles in order to confirm the will of the French Red Cross to participate in the human reconstruction of the northern islands and to ensure the development in the West Indies of effective actions aimed at vulnerable populations.

On Friday January 11 at 9 a.m., Jean-Christophe COMBE will begin his trip with the inauguration of the Saint-Martin branch of the Professional Training Center of the French Red Cross located in Orient Bay. This will be an opportunity for the Director General to meet the educational team as well as the first promotion of the “Youth Insertion Training” made up of more than ten trainees from all the districts of the island. At 11 a.m., Jean-Christophe COMBE will formalize, in the presence of Mrs Ketty KARAM FISCHER, the takeover by the French Red Cross of the three medico-social structures managed until 31 December 2018 by the said President of the Association Les Liaisons Dangereuses. These are the Health Center / CeGIDD, the CSAPA of the Northern Islands and the Espace Santé Jeunes

Presentation of actions and devices to prevent major risks:

Jean-Christophe COMBE will officially launch the Get Ready with me mobile risk reduction device in Saint Martin on Friday January 11 at 13:45 pm at Howel Center, in the presence of President Daniel GIBBS and Mr. Dominique JANE, Acting Secretary General , representative of Madame la Préfète. The objective of this mobile device is to introduce the culture of risk to the population through awareness-raising operations that will take place during events for the general public and through proximity sessions with residents.

Indeed, if after Hurricane Irma, the French Red Cross has reassessed and increased its ability to preposition emergency means in Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy in order to respond more effectively to the essential needs of the populations , the preparation does not only concern the actors of the Red Cross but all of the inhabitants of the territory exposed to major risks. This is why the association is developing a disaster risk reduction program across the French West Indies.
