Solidarity: 90 Scouts and Guides from France come to help rebuild Saint-Martin

1

On Saturday July 14, nearly 90 scouts (boys) and guides (girls) from France aged 17 to 22 disembarked at the airports of Grand Case and Juliana to lend a hand in Saint-Martin.

Usually, during the summer, they carry out solidarity missions abroad. This year, they decided to come to Saint-Martin. Each of the 25 teams had to finance their stay by doing odd jobs, asking for subsidies to companies or their municipality, launching crowdfunding campaigns. Until August 11, they will devote a week to discover the island, and three to construction sites. They will voluntarily carry out solidarity actions around three axes: nature, reconstruction and animation.

Supervised by the Conservatoire du littoral, they will clean up the Galion beach and its surroundings, still soiled by a lot of waste and debris. Divided into several teams, these young volunteers will help to rehabilitate the Old House in the Quartier d'Orléans and will participate in a dozen reconstruction projects with Saint-Martin associations. In addition, they will intervene to rehabilitate the local scouts located in Marigot near the Catholic church. Finally, in connection with the Community, they will organize activities for young people, and some of them will be invited to come camp with them for several weeks.

The Scouts of France will indeed be housed on the grounds of the Flemming family in Bellevue.

On July 22, they will celebrate on their camp the 100th anniversary of the Rovers (English name of the companions (the oldest branch of the scouts)) from 10 am. They invited the scouts of Anguilla and Sint Maarten for the occasion.
