“I came to learn the basics of painting. There are big jobs at home that I can't do but I want to take care of decorating my son's room. I find this workshop very enriching and it allows us to correct the mistakes that we are used to making.

It's my first and it won't be the last. ” Emilie confides from a stepladder and a roller in her hand. She participated Thursday, May 2 between 9 am and noon, in the second painting workshop led by the Companions Builders at Sandy Ground. The Compagnons Bâtisseurs have been organizing, from April 23 until May 28, introductory workshops in painting, plumbing, small electrical repairs, earthenware and wood in its two resource centers located at Sandy Ground (on the parking lot of the cultural center) and Quartier d'Orléans (along the road, at the corner of the Impasse des Barry). Financed by the remainders of the funds allocated to the Compagnons Bâtisseurs by the Fondation de France last year, the resource centers, materialized by containers, are intended to host free training sessions for the population. But also, to serve as a basis for the loan of technical tools so that, as Thierry Ghouila, technical coordinator of these centers explains, "all the inhabitants can come and borrow tools free of charge", and for solidarity projects. "If necessary, we intervene free of charge to help elderly people, or people alone with children, or emblematic people who intervene in neighborhood life" continues Thierry Ghouila. These actions are complementary to those to repair roofs carried out by the Compagnons since January 2018. “The objective of the resource centers is to create links and mutual aid between the inhabitants and to perpetuate the action of the Compagnons Bâtisseurs in Saint -Martin ”indicates the coordinator. Find all the workshop dates on the Facebook page of the Compagnons Bâtisseurs de SXM.
