Sint Maarten / Car thefts: Dutch police are stepping up checks!

0

On Friday, September 24, around 1 a.m., a Dutch police patrol spotted a vehicle parked in the dark on Guana Bay beach. After several checks of the vehicle, the police proceeded to arrest their occupants.

The driver of the car and his passenger could not explain to the police officers how they were able to acquire this vehicle. In fact, they were arrested and taken to Philipsburg police station where they were taken into custody.

The vehicle was confiscated and an investigation was opened.

The Sint Maarten police point out that many stolen vehicles are sold for well below their real value. Some buyers have no idea that the car has been stolen and sometimes find out too late. The police specify that the buyers are doubly harmed, since the vehicle will be confiscated and the money will be lost. In addition, they can be prosecuted for concealment.

The police of Sint Maarten let it be known that they are working with their counterparts on the French side to put an end to vehicle thefts. To do this, the police and gendarmes have stepped up checks on suspected stolen vehicles.
