Sint-Maarten: An individual arrested for fraud!

0

A 52-year-old man was arrested by police on Saturday, February 23, on suspicion of a scam.

The incident occurred after the victim contacted an immigration officer explaining that she had paid the suspect a considerable amount of money. The latter had to provide him with legal documents allowing him to stay on the island. However, these documents were never produced and the victim was never reimbursed. The immigration officer immediately investigated the situation, which allowed the suspect to falsely identify himself as an immigration officer and defraud his victims to provide them with legal documents.

The police were immediately informed of the situation and attended the scene where the suspect was immediately arrested, taken to the police headquarters and taken into custody for further investigation.

As part of this investigation, the police service asks anyone who may have been a victim of this criminal act to report to the police service in order to lodge a formal complaint.
