Sint Maarten: (News item) Since the beginning of the year, customs have confiscated around 2 kilos of marijuana and 500 kilos of cocaine!

 During a routine check on February 14, customs officials at the port facilities confiscated a container from Jamaica with nearly 2 kilos of marijuana.

The marijuana was hidden in about 200 boxes. The narcotics were compressed and packed in plastic packaging. The drugs were then brought back with the help of the police to the Philipsburg station for an official weighing. When the weighing process was finalized, the cargo was immediately loaded onto several police vehicles before being destroyed, burned under the supervision of the prosecution.

On Saturday, February 15, once again, customs officials at Princess Juliana Airport confiscated and detained a passenger arriving on the Caribbean Airlines flight from Trinidad, a native of Suriname. During a routine check, the customs officers found 4 bottles filled with cocaine which were in the luggage of the passenger bearing the initials FPW, outside help with special tools was necessary to extract the cocaine from the bottles. The confiscated cocaine weighed approximately 5 kg in total. This investigation is ongoing.

Customs officials arrested a male passenger with the initials BCV on February 8, still at Juliana Airport. The Surinamese national arrived on the flight of the Caribbean airline (BW884) from Trinidad. Two packages filled with cocaine weighing nearly 2 kg were found hidden in a black makeup bag inside the passenger's luggage. Again, the investigation is still ongoing.

Finally, on January 25, customs officers from Juliana airport arrested two female passengers arriving on flight Winair 805 from Curacao. They were in possession of approximately 8 kg of cocaine hidden in a professional double bottom compartment in their suitcases.

The investigation continues.

Customs will continue to intensify airport and port controls.
