Philipsburg, the capital of the Dutch side, has been one of the hardest hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. The city's main source of income comes from the once vibrant cruise tourism industry which has been in dry dock for over a year now.

While waiting to see the many cruise ships dock at the port of Philipsburg, it is the residents and a few tourists who ring the card dispensers and cash registers of businesses.

"We are very grateful to benefit from local support which allows us to continue our activity", underlines the businessman and owner of Klass Electronics, Ramesh Mahtani before adding "The economic activity has declined significantly due to limiting travel, both regional and international. We hope that the vaccine will begin to stabilize the global situation. We can bet that travel and cruises will pick up again towards the end of the year and will help revive the economy ”. _AF
