Sint Maarten: Sports bags full of cocaine seized by customs at Juliana airport

0

On Friday March 5, while carrying out a routine check, Juliana airport customs officers intercepted three sports bags. The bags contained packages which were relatively heavy, which aroused the suspicions of officials.

After searching the bags, it turned out that the packages contained cocaine destined for Europe. The luggage and its contents were obviously seized by customs officers.

The investigation was assigned to Team Alpha, which is a unit made up of customs, police, Royal Constabulary and Coast Guard. The quantity of drugs seized was not communicated by the investigators, because the case being under investigation, no additional information could be revealed.

In the statement from the customs of Sint Maarten, it is indicated that despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the controls, in airport facilities, ports, yachts and all docks where illegal goods can enter or leave the island, will be intensified.
