Sint Maarten: Members of the government accused of not following the sanitary protocol.

"Do what I say, not what I do", this is basically what the independent member of Sint Maarten, Christophe Emmanuel, criticizes certain members of the government of Sint Maarten.

It is on his facebook page that the independent MP for Sint Maarten, Christophe Emmanuel, split a press release last Sunday, declaring that members of the government should stop "adopting unbecoming behavior, being transparent with the public. , follow established protocols and stop trying to deviate with empty and evasive press releases ”. “Protocols are in place to protect people. The leaders of this country should avoid undermining them with irresponsible actions, ”said the MP.

With these words, the MP was referring to the allegation that Public Health Minister Omar Ottley and Speaker of Parliament Rolando Brison attended a rally last Friday at the partly Dutch nightclub Le Lotus and beyond curfew.  Minister Ottley responded to questions posed publicly by MP Emmanuel by stating that he had not allowed The Lotus to remain open after 23 p.m. "However, the minister did not specify if the event had indeed continued after 23 pm and if he was present after 23 pm" denounces the deputy.

Christophe Emmanuel recalls that Minister Ottley's ministerial decree regulating the current closing times states that all bars, nightclubs, discos, restaurants and places rented for parties and events should be closed between 23 p.m. and 6 a.m. Any violation of the opening hours is punishable by 4 months of detention or a fine by Naf. 5 (around 000 euros-NDLR).

MP Emmanuel said this type of behavior exhibited by MP Brison, Minister Ottley was “unacceptable and they should be held accountable… These are serious times. While some are fighting at Sint Maarten Medical Center or struggling in a tough economy, there are officials who are acting against their own regulations just because they want to party, ”the MP said.

Despite the denials of those concerned, for Christophe Emmanuel, several questions remain unanswered: "Minister Ottley and MP Brison were they at a private party at the Lotus on Friday after 23 pm? Did Minister Ottley or MP Brison allow The Lotus to be the seat of a private party against the regulations? Will the Lotus or the event organizer be fined? Who really organized the private party? Did the government of Sint Maarten contribute financially to this event or any related event for those associated with the Lakers organization? ” he asks himself on his page.
