The Sint Maarten Police (KPSM) is issuing a security advisory ahead of the “Causeway Jump-Up Carnival” event scheduled for this Saturday, March 16, from 20 p.m.

The Causeway Jump-Up Carnival has become one of the most anticipated events on the pre-carnival calendar  during which thousands of people come together to launch the Sint Maarten Carnival festivities which will take place from April 18 to May 5, 2024.

In this context, law enforcement urges the public to strictly respect security rules and to be attentive to the changes implemented to ensure the flow of traffic during the festivities.

In the past at Jump-Up events, police have observed disturbing behavior from scooter and motorcycle riders, which poses risks to participants and spectators. These behaviors are likely to compromise the safety of people participating in the Jump-Up.

In light of these observations, the KPSM emphasizes its commitment to maintaining public safety and announces that strict measures will be applied to remedy any violations. The police will not hesitate to take strong action against those involved in fights, public drunkenness, drug trafficking, resisting arrest and possession of weapons during the Jump- Up.

Weapon possession poses a significant threat to public safety and will not be tolerated. Persons found in possession of weapons will be promptly apprehended and face legal consequences.

Community cooperation is essential to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants. KPSM asks everyone to remain vigilant, follow established rules and promptly report any suspicious activity to authorities. _AF
