Sint Maarten / Accident at work: Two employees injured by a domestic gas explosion

A gas explosion took place last Friday, around 14 p.m., seriously injuring two men who were delivering gas to a business. A minor in the area suffered from gas inhalation.

The switchboard at the Philipsburg police station received a phone call regarding an explosion near the White Swan restaurant on Sister Modesta Road in the Simpson Bay area. On arrival, the police patrol, the paramedics and the fire brigade found two men who were severely burned on the hands, face and chest.

After gathering initial information, police found that the two injured men, who work for a domestic gas company, were injured accidentally while transferring gas to a merchant. Paramedics administered first aid to the two victims, before transferring them to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for appropriate treatment. An investigation is still underway to determine the exact causes of the accident. _RM
