During the interministerial committee for road safety (IRB), Tuesday January 9, Prime Minister Édouard Philippe decided that the measures taken would be fully applied in the overseas departments and regions, reports the Minister of Overseas sea in a press release.

Indeed, causing more than two hundred deaths per year, road insecurity is a real scourge overseas. "The decisions of the IRB will therefore find a particular resonance there, in particular concerning the protection of pedestrians, the responsibility of users of powered two-wheelers or even the placement of vehicles in the headland in the event of serious offenses," said Annick Girardin.

On the proposal of his minister for overseas, the Prime Minister also decided to put an end to a historical practice consisting in not publishing the figures of road safety overseas at the same time as the figures of the metropolis (accidentology, number injured, number killed).

In the interests of transparency, in order to better take these realities into account and cope with them, the figures coming from overseas territories will in future be systematically communicated when the national figures are published.

Overseas Minister Annick Girardin welcomes this decision, which illustrates the overseas reflex within the government and which will allow tomorrow to fully involve all the players in road safety in the territories concerned.
