RESCUE: A sea trip to identify a... mooring buoy!

0

The crew members of the Saint Martin SNSM station were called on Friday September 23 at 17:25 p.m. by the CROSS-AG (Regional Operational Center for Surveillance and Rescue of the Antilles-Guyana) to investigate an "unidentified" object at sea off of Friars Bay.

A witness on land had indeed called the CROSS at 17 p.m., telling them that an orange object was floating a few hundred meters from the shore; he thought it might be a life raft or several vests.

Five crew members therefore go to the SNSM Station to pick up their equipment and they leave the Fort Louis marina aboard the Rescue Star at 17:50 p.m.

Ten minutes later, they are in the area where they actually find life jackets, all moored together then connected to a line and a chain. The crew deduce that they act as a buoy for the Friar's Bay sailing school mooring!

The lifeguards of the SNSM of Saint-Martin report their conclusion to the CROSS who contacts the manager of the sailing school; and this one confirms that it is indeed a mooring "buoy" for their small dinghies which they use during sailing lessons.

At 18 p.m. the CROSS gives freedom of maneuver to the Rescue Star, which is back at the dock at 10 p.m. and the crew return home, joking that they have gone out to save life jackets, which they have ultimately left behind. What an adventure ! _AF
