Many people recently participated in the 3rd annual forum of managers of marine protected areas in the French Caribbean (MPA) in Saint-Martin, as we announced to you yesterday. The role of managers facing Sargassum algae was included in the program.

"Still poorly understood from a scientific point of view, this phenomenon which seems to persist raises major health, economic and environmental challenges", mentioned the Natural Reserve of Saint-Martin. During the forum, Fabien Védie, referent for marine environments at the Department of the Environment, Planning and Housing (DEAL) indicated that in Martinique, "75% of the coast are inaccessible for collection and we are thinking about a panel of complementary techniques, on a case-by-case basis, because there is no single solution ”. For the reserve, "manual collection remains the most ecological way of collecting". In Saint-Martin, the prefecture is working with DEAL Guadeloupe to find solutions.
