Oualichi Festival: four days to promote the music of the island

Xtratight Entertainment and Kalaboom Events, two event companies based respectively on the Dutch and French side, have teamed up to organize the Oualichi Festival “SXM Best Weekend” from July 26 to 29.

This weekend of festivities aims to highlight the culture, heritage and music of the island, and to attract both locals and tourists. The festival will kick off with a welcome party at Captain's Hodge Wharf (Philispburg) on ​​Thursday July 26, for which attendees are encouraged to dress in white. It will be hosted by Gee Money and Sarolia Ada, with performances from artists such as Christian Amor (live jazz), Malaika Maxwell, Shawn J, Gunslingers Steel Pan and more.

The festival village will open its doors on Friday July 27. This year marks the 7th edition of the fun and energetic friendly rivalry “Soca vs Dancehall”. The event will be hosted by two of the most dynamic mcs, Suppa Kidd and Dutty Sham. Festival-goers are encouraged to wear yellow if they like soca and green if they prefer dancehall. International artists such as dancehall sensation Mr. Vegas and Bacchanal King Kerwin du Bois will perform live with the island's top DJs including DeejBlaize, DJ Lil R, Mixmaster Pauly and Dj Fabulous.

The next day will take place the evening entitled “mixture”, on Saturday July 28, with concerts among others by Youth Waves, Kes the band and the legendary Jamaican singer Barrington Lévy. On Sunday, the festival will end with a Beach Party at Happy Bay, titled "Oualichi 'Love' Beach Party". The Red Eye Crew, Oswald, Kenyo Baly, Shall Marshall and BIig Band, among others, will perform on stage.
