During a "virtual" press conference organized the day before yesterday, the overseas ministry declared having observed "an beginning of contamination of the residents who did not move, who did not travel".

Wednesday mid-day Antilles time, 88 cases are recorded overseas, including 19 cases in Martinique, 33 in Guadeloupe, 14 in Reunion, 11 in Guyana, 1 in Saint-Martin, 2 in Saint-Barth, 2 in New Caledonia, 3 in Polynesia and 3 in Mayotte. Wallis and Futuna and Saint-Pierre and Miquelon are the only two overseas territories not to be affected.

"We must slow down the spread of the disease as much as possible," insisted Annick Girardin. The challenge is not to overload the hospitals whose capacities are limited in each of the territories, so that the sickest people can be treated.

The Minister insisted on compliance with the measures put in place. Concerning ultramarines (including students) who are in metropolitan France or in Europe, they are asked “to remain in their usual place of residence. Instructions have been issued to keep student accommodation in France open ”. And to specify for those who return that they must imperatively confine for 14 days.

Finally, she confirmed that the state of health emergency will be decreed applied overseas as it will be in mainland France. The decision has just been taken in the Council of Ministers.
