The Sint Maarten prosecutor said he was "satisfied" with the judgment rendered by the court of first instance against the individuals who had participated in the armed robbery of a Canadian tourist. As a reminder, the facts took place in the early evening on the beach in Beacon Hill on June 5, 2019, the victim and her daughter were walking when they were violently attacked by three individuals. During the assault, the father wanted to protect his daughter and was seriously injured after being shot. He died a few days later in Florida where he had been evacuated and hospitalized.

The investigation had identified the involvement of GMS, KHSR and JSE, aged 19, 20 and 17 respectively. The two adults were tried by the Sint Maarten court of first instance and the minor by the children's court.

GMS was recognized as the author of the fatal shot and sentenced to eighteen years. KHSR was sentenced to four years in prison for providing the car and the weapon to GMS when he knew that GMS intended to commit an armed robbery.

JSE, who was only sixteen at the time of the facts, deposited and recovered GMS so that he could commit the theft. He was sentenced to XNUMX months in prison, XNUMX of which were suspended.
