According to Jean-Michel Blanquer, Minister of National Education, 90% of teachers will be present in schools and schools this Monday, November 6. To date, only 13 people have not yet reported to the rectorate of Guadeloupe.

A few days after Irma's visit, Jean-Michel Blanquer, Minister of National Education, accompanied the President of the Republic during a trip he made on site. He supported the educational teams, assessed the extent of the damage and prepared the resumption of the education service as soon as possible.

Three schools and a college had been completely destroyed. Fifteen schools, two colleges, the school complex and two vocational high schools had been partially damaged.

The President of the Republic had pledged to reopen when he returned from the All Saints holidays.

Thanks to the commitment of the community and the mobilization of staff, solutions have been found everywhere. Classes began to resume from October 2. Everything was done to welcome the students for the date of November 6.

The Minister, who is present in Saint-Martin, alongside the Prime Minister, to attend the start of the school year, welcomes this very strong mobilization of the State and the communities.

He salutes the dedication of the staff who made it possible to reopen the schools in Saint-Martin. However, we must not hide our face, the situation is always complicated! The return to school touted as "normal" by the executive will not really be. Of the twenty-one schools, five have been destroyed and will need to be rebuilt. The remaining sixteen will open their doors, but the students had to be distributed among the different schools. A quarter of them, who left to continue their education in Guadeloupe or in mainland France, will not be present today on the school benches! _AF
