After 35 years of career in the French Navy, Rear Admiral Olivier Coupry took command of the armed forces in the Antilles, the Antilles maritime area and the Antilles Defense base on August 28th. He succeeds Rear Admiral Georges Bosselut.

During his meeting last Wednesday with the local media in the prefecture, the new superior commander (COMSUP) of the armed forces in the West Indies underlined the importance of the missions conducted by the three armies, directorates and services of the FAA for our country which are "The presence and manifestation of French sovereignty, aid to French populations and islands in the event of natural disaster, the fight against drug trafficking, the protection of French maritime areas and operational cooperation with our neighbors". The Armed Forces in the Antilles (FAA) guarantee the protection of the national territory and lead regional cooperation from the departments of Martinique and Guadeloupe, including Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy. They constitute a joint air and sea system of the foreground in the Antilles-Guyane Theater, in coordination with the armed forces in Guyana. Remember that the FAA conduct two main missions in the area: the fight against drug trafficking on the high seas, as well as assistance and rescue to the population during natural disasters. _AF
