Reconstruction of schools: Close-up on Elie Gibs primary school

0

The two schools in the village of Grand-Case, kindergarten Ghislaine Rogers and primary, Elie Gibs, were the focus of the Community's attention during this school year.

Indeed, the two schools having been badly damaged by Hurricane Irma, the pupils of Elie Gibs were welcomed until the Easter holidays in the premises of the neighboring nursery school, Ghislaine Rogers. These two schools also had to play during this school year a role of "buffer" to welcome the pupils of the Emile Larmonie school of Cul de Sac, destroyed by the hurricane.

In the Elie Gibs school, the Collectivity engaged in emergency repairs to the premises last February so that the pupils can return to their walls, during the month of April, freeing up space in the premises of the kindergarten. The doors and windows, the fence were repaired, two rooms which were not allocated to classes, notably the library, were transformed into classrooms. Work carried out in an emergency for the pupils of Elie Gibs to vacate the premises of the Ghislaine Rogers school. President Daniel Gibbs got involved with parents of students who had expressed their impatience by a street march in February. Parents of students were then received by the president and his vice-president in charge of school affairs, Annick Ferga-Petrus, and solutions were announced which were held.

The school year which has just passed has nevertheless been complicated and disrupted for these two schools in Grand-Case, with timetables in rotation during the first two terms. Repair work continued throughout the year, including the repair of the refectory roof, which was carried out last May. The major roof repair work is scheduled for the end of August for this school, and should continue until mid-November. The Collectivity has committed a budget of nearly 618 euros for the refurbishment of this school, including almost 000 euros only for roofs.

190 students are registered for the September 2018 return to school which will have 15 operational classes.

New sectorization

From the start of the 2018 school year, and given the new configuration of primary schools, a new sector was recently adopted by the Executive Council. This decision arises from the need to ensure security, to guarantee the working conditions of members of the school community, while ensuring that the accommodation capacity of school premises is adequate and being vigilant that the adapting school sectors does not weaken the schools concerned, nor does it disrupt family arrangements.

Elie Gibs primary school in Grand Case will welcome students residing in La savane (gas station), Grand Case, Anse Marcel, route de espérance, Hope Estate, Mont Vernon1, Mont vernon 2, Mont Vernon 3, Cul de Sac .
