Reconstruction of schools / Jérôme Beaupère School

In the heart of the Sandy Ground district, the Jérôme Beaupère preschool suffered the full brunt of Hurricane Irma.

While it had planned to welcome 191 children for the 2017 school year, given the extent of the damage suffered, it could not reopen its doors at the start of the school year, which took place on November 6, 2017.

The damage caused by Hurricane Irma on this nursery school is significant: if the structure as a whole held, the roof, the windows and the doors were torn off, the fence flew away, the electrical installation was strongly damaged. The decision was to put in place protective measures on the building and to start work for a reopening of the establishment at the start of the school year in September 2018. To do this, the Collectivity committed the sum of 147 euros. The works undertaken since the first week of March will be completed during the second half of August.

Throughout the 2017 - 2018 school year, children were welcomed at the neighboring primary school, Aline Hanson, thanks to a system of rotation of timetables organized between the two schools. Exhausting schedules that disrupted the work of teachers and the entire educational community, but also trying for families and children. These are the only two schools on the island that have completed the school year in this context of timetable rotation. President Daniel Gibbs, Vice-President Annick Petrus Ferga, as well as all of the elected officials of the Community warmly thank all the staff of these two schools, the children and their families for the patience they have shown throughout this year. complicated school year and assure them of doing everything possible so that the start of the 2018-2019 school year takes place in optimal conditions. The 19 classes of Jérôme Beaupère school will be completely renovated and will be able to accommodate the 181 students who are already registered for this next school year.

New sectorization

From the start of the 2018 school year, and given the new configuration of primary schools, a new sector was recently adopted by the Executive Council. This decision arises from the need to ensure security, to guarantee the working conditions of members of the school community, while ensuring that the accommodation capacity of school premises is adequate and being vigilant that the adapting school sectors does not weaken the schools concerned, nor does it disrupt family arrangements.

The Jérôme Beaupère nursery school located in Sandy Ground will welcome students resuming Route de Sandy Ground (Anse des Sables, Rue Round Hill, Nettle Bay, Terres-Basses) and the Sandy Ground neighborhood from September 2018.
