The 20 young people from the Green Brigade were honored last Friday at the Hôtel de la Collectivité. On this occasion, the president Aline Hanson and the prefect Anne Laubies drew up a first assessment of the collection of sargassum on our territory.

This brigade, led by the symphorian insertion center, has been in the field since last September. There is no lack of work. The collection of algae was colossal at several sites, including Cul-de-Sac and Coralita. Hired on subsidized contracts paid by the State and Ademe (Environment and Energy Management Agency), they gave their impressions in turn. From a general point of view, these young people are happy to have work and to value the island. The director of the center Marie-Paule Rousseau did not hide her pride: “They work really hard. It's a very nice meeting. We will always be there for them. ”

“In total, 938 tonnes of algae were collected and sent to the processing center for recovery,” says Aline Hanson, who recalls that the COM has committed 239.000 euros for the collection. The president thanked the crossing guards for their work and encouraged them to continue their commitment. “Your work has significantly improved the condition of the beaches. We are committed to preserving the tourist image, ”adds Ms. Hanson. “It's a job we have to do together. We know very well that we cannot control strandings. We meet every two weeks at the prefecture with the Collectivity and the association to take stock ”, explains Prefect Anne Laubies, specifying that under the aegis of the CCISM, meetings have made it possible to work with several tourism companies. This week, an interministerial mission will be present in Saint-Martin.
