Obligatory fortnight in Overseas: Tourism professionals raise the tone!

0

Enough is enough ! Members of the GHTG-UMIH Guadeloupe, the Federation of Accommodation Professionals and Tourism Associations, the Union Syndicale des Operateurs Touristiques de Guyane, the Tourism Cluster in Martinique, the UMIH Martinique and the Association of Hoteliers of Saint-Martin denounces "decree number 2020–663 dated May 31, 2020 which drastically restricts freedoms, travel, reopening of businesses, and the restart of activities in the Antilles, Guyana, Mayotte and in Corsica ".

More specifically, tourism professionals in the Antilles-Guyana castigate the fortnight and health restrictions preventing in particular a normal resumption of air traffic. "Corsica reacted vigorously by sending a letter on June 2 to the Prime Minister, denouncing surprising, incoherent, unequal arrangements between air and sea, between hexagonal France and the island of Corsica", indicate the organizations.

“A new decree n ° 2020-664 repeals the restrictive provisions which applied three days ago to Corsica, but still apply to Overseas. Air traffic is restored in Corsica, without fortnight, and without any restriction of movement. The compelling motives are abolished. Corsica is liberated! "

If the organizations understand that these restrictions are still applicable to Guyana and Mayotte, in the orange zone, they question themselves for Guadeloupe, Martinique, Reunion and Saint-Martin in the green zone. “We do not understand the government's segregationist position. Why this unequal treatment? Yes to Corsicans! No to Overseas!

Why maintain for Overseas only (except Guyana and Mayotte which are not in the green zone) provisions recognized, without delay, as inconsistent for Corsica? "

Gilbert Cisneros, president of the main French tour operator for Guadeloupe, Guyana, Martinique and Saint-Martin, specialist in the islands, denounces "a purely electoral context". "Local politicians want to maintain quarantine to capture the routes of extremists at the municipal level who think that foreigners will bring the Coronavirus to their islands: this situation is surreal and it is an economic nonsense," he said.

"Tomorrow, businesses will disappear, the number of unemployed will rise sharply, purchasing power will fall, the number of planes will fall, airline ticket prices will rise, and commodity prices will rise because transport costs will have increased ", warn tourism organizations again" We request that the discrimination against our Overseas be subject to on the part of the Government, and that Decree No. 2020-664 published on June 3, 2020 which repeals the restrictive provisions which applied to Corsica, be modified ”.

As a reminder :

Travelers arriving in Guadeloupe, with the exception of people from Martinique and the Northern Islands, are subject to a fortnight in dedicated accommodation or at home.

Passengers in transit at Pointe-à-Pitre bound for Saint-Martin (Grand-Case Airport) are also subject to a fortnight at home.

A PCR test is proposed on arrival and 8 days after; people in their fortnight at home must respond to calls from the authorities for health monitoring.
