This year again, the territories of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin totaled more than 20 injuries and 7 deaths on the road. These are 7 deaths too many.
In question, risky behavior (non-compliance with the highway code: absence of indicators, failure to wear a helmet or seat belt, lack of visibility of pedestrians and cyclists, driving under the influence of a alcohol or narcotics, etc.) incompatible with driving, which generate too many bodily accidents and deaths for two territories not exceeding 115 km².
Faced with this observation, the services of the State are constantly mobilized, and count on the responsibility of all.
The prefecture of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin is therefore launching a call for "road safety" projects in order to encourage and help the implementation of preventive actions, which will be carried out at the end of 2022 by the actors of the civil society. This call for projects is open to state administrations, local authorities, the media, private companies, associations, insurance companies, public establishments, etc.
These projects will take the form of training, awareness, education or communication actions responding, among other things, to the following local challenges:
• prevention among young people on the use of motorized two-wheelers;
• failure to wear safety equipment, in particular a helmet;
• risky driving, particularly under the influence of alcohol and narcotics, and the illegal and dangerous nature of “wild rodeos”;
• the visibility and danger of mobile phones while driving.
It should be noted that developments (roads, buildings, etc.) are not concerned by this call for projects.
