POLITICS: A busy schedule for Gérald Darmanin and Jean-François Carenco on an official visit to Saint-Martin

Arrived on the Air France flight on Friday May 26 in the company of Jean-François Carenco, Minister Delegate for Overseas Territories, Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior and Overseas Territories, followed a series of appointments at a run with in particular a meeting with the gendarmes and the security forces, the firefighters and the laying of the first stone of the future administrative and judicial city of Saint-Martin which will bring together the vast majority of State services on the island.

The day after the official signing of the agreement between France and the Kingdom of the Netherlands relating to the border delimiting Saint-Martin and Sint Maarten at Oyster Pond, Gérald Darmanin and Jean-François Carenco went on Saturday morning to the Gendarmerie barracks of La Savane in the presence of Army General Christian Rodriguez, Director General of the National Gendarmerie, General Vincent Lamballe, Commander of the Gendarmerie of Guadeloupe and the Northern Islands.

Gérald Darmanin took advantage of his meeting with the military to announce additional resources for the police with a new gendarmerie brigade and increased resources allocated to the fight against drugs.

The two ministers then visited the fire brigade. They were welcomed by Félix Antenor-Habazac, general controller of SDIS Guadeloupe, Henry Angélique, chairman of the SDIS Guadeloupe Board of Directors and Cyrille Pallud, commander of the Fire and Rescue Center of Saint-Martin.

The Minister of the Interior and Overseas France paid tribute to all the firefighters present for "their qualities and their courage which no longer need to be demonstrated, in particular with regard to their unfailing commitment after hurricane Irma".

At the end of the morning and before flying to the sister island of Saint-Barthélemy in the early afternoon, Gérald Darmanin concluded his ministerial visit to Concordia, on the construction site of the future administrative and judicial city. Accompanied by Jean-François Carenco, the president of the Collectivity, Louis Mussington, the senator, Annick Pétrus, the prefects Lefort and Berton and the director of the public agency for the real estate of justice (APIJ), Philippe Eloi, the Minister symbolically laid the first stone of the future Administrative and Judicial City. This marks a “strong symbol of the reconstruction of the island”, he underlined.

According to forecasts, the Administrative and Judicial City of Saint-Martin should be operational by the end of 2025. _AF
