POLICY: The COM wants to bet on the blue economy

"In view of the territory's vulnerability to extreme climatic events coupled with an economy centered almost exclusively on tourism, the island's economic strategy needs to be rethought", estimates the community. So she wants to focus more on a "blue economy". For this, it wishes to be supported in the development of its strategy and has just launched a public call for competition.

The service provider will have to establish a diagnosis of the territory of Saint-Martin in terms of the blue economy, "develop a forward-looking strategy thanks to a concerted vision of the various actors of the territory" as well as support the management of the implementation of the defined strategic actions. .

The chosen strategy will have to "mobilize the untapped potential of the blue economy in favor of employment and growth in the territory". "This work should ultimately make it possible to secure existing jobs and bring out new sources of income, while ensuring the preservation of biodiversity and the protection of marine and coastal ecosystems", conceives the COM, which will coordinate the actors of the sectors concerned and plans to establish a foundation for the blue economy.

The cost of the support service is estimated at around 200 euros.
