Investigators from the Research section of Saint-Martin got hold of a large booty distributed in 15 apartments in the same building in Saint-Martin

Gutted houses and shops robbed by gangs sometimes armed and threatening. No one has forgotten these scenes after Hurricane Irma. Faced with this chaos, the government had promised the utmost severity. And almost three weeks after the natural disaster which destroyed part of the West Indies, a Haitian man was arrested in Saint-Martin.

The latter himself organized and participated in the looting of shops and homes. He had been seen several times during the hurricane and, soon after, aboard his big 4 × 4 in the devastated streets of Saint-Martin. He is even suspected of having assembled several teams to be more effective in the looting when it is he, who recovered all the equipment. The investigators were able to track down this alleged looter thanks to several testimonies and certain extremely precise information. The research section of Saint-Martin then found his trace on Thursday, September 21 before launching a vast operation of arrest, with the help of the GIGN, the next day.

An entire building "privatized"

Investigators were not disappointed when the search turned out to be fruitful to say the least. The suspect had completely privatized his building and stolen products were found in fifteen apartments. In total, no less than 40 m3 of material was discovered with household appliances, luxury goods, jewelry and even handbags.

The 28-year-old Haitian boy denies the facts today. The latter was indicted and transferred to Basse-Terre prison in Guadeloupe. _AF
