By an order of October 31, the judge of summary proceedings of the administrative court of Guadeloupe ordered the suspension, until it is decided on the merits by the court, of the execution of the orders of the prefect of Guadeloupe dated June 17, 2019, relating to the 2019-2020 hunting season in the department of Guadeloupe and in the community of Saint-Martin, fixing the dates of the hunting season for the yellow-footed thrush and the pigeon at white crown from November 1, 2019 to January 5, 2020.
The judge in chambers, seized by the Association for the protection of wild animals (ASPAS), the Association for the safeguarding and the rehabilitation of the fauna of the Antilles (ASFA) and the league of protection of the birds, after having noted the urgency to rule, considered that taking into account in particular the circumstance, not disputed by the prefect, that no scientific study allows to assess the current population of birds and its dynamics in Guadeloupe and Saint-Martin, the means raised by the applicant associations were capable of creating a serious doubt on the legality of the contested decisions.
It is not the first time that such a decision has been made.
