Navigation: new rules for French and St Maarten boats

0

Since May 29th, all boats registered in Saint-Martin or whose home port is Saint-Martin, are authorized to sail. This concerns boaters who live on their sailboats, individuals who own a motor boat or a jet ski and who use it for leisure as well as professionals (day charters, etc.).

However, they could not sail beyond 3 nautical miles. A new prefectural decree is to be published today removing this restriction. It will therefore be possible to go from Saint-Martin to Saint-Barth and anchor there.

The fortnightly measure will also be lifted as it was for air transport between the islands of the French Antilles.

The new prefectural decree also authorizes boats registered in Sint Maarten to come and sail in French waters with the exception of commercially operated vessels; therefore only boating or private navigation is concerned. The other boats remain prohibited in the waters of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy until a health protocol has not been signed between the prefecture and the government of St Maarten. Finally, as a reminder, the waters of Anguilla remain closed to foreign boats until June 30. (soualigapost.com)
