A new operation by the Armed Forces in the Antilles (FAA) made it possible to intercept a go-fast in the Caribbean Sea and seize a large quantity of cocaine.

On January 29, the surveillance frigate (FS) Germinal, on patrol in the Caribbean Sea (off Martinique), intervened on a suspicious fast boat without nationality marks. The go-fast fled when the soldiers approached, while throwing bales into the sea. Pursued, the boat and its four occupants were finally stopped and 19 bales were recovered at sea. tested positive for cocaine, representing a total weight of 680 Kg.

On the instructions of the public prosecutor of Fort-de-France, the narcotics, the boat and the suspects were returned to the antenna of the anti-narcotics office (OFAST) of Martinique on January 31. This operation, carried out with the support of the "Regional Security System", an international organization working for the defense and security of the Eastern Caribbean, was conducted under the direction of the prefect of Martinique, government delegate for the action of the State at sea and the maritime zone commander of the Antilles.

This first seizure of the year 2022 for the French Armed Forces represents a loss for drug traffickers of 47 million euros on final resale to European consumers (13 million euros if these goods were intended for the West Indies).

As a reminder, 2021 marked the twentieth year of the FAA's commitment against drug trafficking at sea, and was also a record year with more than nine tonnes of cocaine withdrawn from the market.
